Obnoxious people have the right to freedom of speech too, don’t they?

by Obey

Tonight, Nick Griffin leader of the BNP will be on BBC Question Time.  The BBC say that any legitimate political party who has obtained seats in the European parliament should be allowed on the program, regardless of their views and policies.  Many other people disagree and are outraged that the BBC (funded by the us - license payers) is giving a platform on live television to such a racist organisation which only allows white members.

This article (where I stole my title from) says some good stuff..

They must find it difficult...

"They must find it difficult...
those who have taken authority as truth,
rather than truth as authority"
Gerald Massey

I watched Zeitgeist (again) the other day and picked up this quote as one of my favourites.  You can watch it here.

I want them all!

Louise Bobbe has a new exhibition opening this Thursday at the Stephanie Hoppen Gallery in London.  Her work is a dream...sensual, seductive and serene, each piece telling its own story, filled with tension and intimacy.

Not to be missed!

Mutate Britain - One Foot in the Grove

Went to an amazing opening last night of the new Mutate Britain show called 'One Foot in the Grove' in Ladbroke Grove London featuring some amazing artists.  The highlight was a horse made out of metal, wires....and other bits of 'rubbish'..  The artist had a remote control and made it gallop around the space neighing loudly and blowing fire from both ends!  Two young kids (I assume the artist's) were riding on top of it..looking very casual about the whole affair, while scared members of the audience (me..) were being chased by a fire breathing robotic horse!!

The horse was made by Mutoid Waste Company who became famous from their 'Trash City' stage which appears yearly at Glastonbury Festival.

Sophie Calle at the Whitechapel!

I am so excited that Sophie Calle has a new exhibition coming to the Whitechapel Gallery from Oct 16 - Jan 3.  I went to an exhibition at Camden Arts Centre years ago which was so inspiring. The quote below sums her up for me..

"I saw him for the first time in December 1985, at a lecture he was giving. I found him attractive, but one thing bothered me: he was wearing an ugly tie. The next day I anonymously sent him a thin brown tie. Later, I saw him in a restaurant; he was wearing it. Unfortunately, it clashed with his shirt. I was then that I decided to take on the task of dressing him from head to toe: I would send him one article of clothing every year at Christmas. In 1986, he received a pair of silk grey socks; in 1987, a black alpaca sweater; in 1988, a white shirt; in 1989, a pair of gold-plated cufflinks; in 1990, a pair of boxer shorts with a Christmas-tree pattern; nothing in 1991; and in 1992, a pair of grey trousers. Someday, when he is fully dressed by me, I would like to be introduced to him."

Sonnet XVII

Sonnet XVII

I do not love you as if you were salt-rose, or topaz,
or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off.
I love you as certain dark things are to be loved,
in secret, between the shadow and the soul.

I love you as the plant that never blooms
but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers;
thanks to your love a certain solid fragrance,
risen from the earth, lives darkly in my body.

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where.
I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride;
so I love you because I know no other way

than this: where I does not exist, nor you,
so close that your hand on my chest is my hand,
so close that your eyes close as I fall asleep.

Pablo Neruda
